Closing of Three-Cornered World + Artist Talk by Pam Virada
The completion of memory-objects accumulation.

Throughout a month-time, Virada has slowly proceeded to install her memory-objects within the attic of Tentacles. The conclusion of the accumulation has been completed with 36 memories altogether.

Artist Statement

Recalled memories represent the residues of faded life, not yet to be discarded. It clings around, saturating the self with nostalgia. For Virada, these earlier times are sometimes embedded within objects surrounding her everyday life. She believes that they reveal their archetypal imageries that exist simultaneously in both ‘reality’ and ‘memory’, blurring out the borders between the two places. However, before the memory is ‘removed’, do we let it lie within the psyche’s attic, or do we enter to sort, explore and shed light on the matter?

Three-Cornered World is a site-specific installation of memory enacted at Tentacles gallery. Virada will be systemizing her recollections into a memory- object archive, localizing the often-cluttered museum of earlier times by ways of using objects as the archetypal thresholds of memories. Corresponding to the place, her personal mental-space will be projected onto the visitor’s. She sees this hypothesis of memory storage as a reaction towards her longtime penchant for personal place.

Throughout a month-time; memory-objects’ accumulation may amass into things known and unknown to the visitors. Available for discovery, though unnecessarily revealed. Visitors are invited to recall on them through one’s own personal recognitions and misunderstandings.

Please do not treat them merely as décors; the reality observed will hopefully form a semi-imitation of a memory.

Pam Virada (b. 1993) is an artist/graphic designer based in Bangkok. She is interested in the interpretations of space, established through the overlapping disciplines of photography, video and installation. She received her B.A. in Visual Communication Design from Chulalongkorn University.
