เมื่อตั้งใจดู “สิ่งที่มองไม่เห็น” เราเห็นถึงตัวตนและวัฒนธรรมของเราและของผู้อื่นอย่างไร?
ศูนย์สร้างสรรค์งานออกแบบ โดยสำนักงานส่งเสริมเศรษฐกิจสร้างสรรค์ (องค์การมหาชน) และสถาบันเกอเธ่ ประเทศไทย ร่วมกันนำเสนอนิทรรศการ “สิ่งที่มองไม่เห็น” Invisible Things และชวนสำรวจของใช้ประจำวัน กระบวนความคิด และวิถีชีวิตอันเป็นลักษณะเฉพาะของคนในท้องถิ่น รวมไปถึงมุมมองต่อสิ่งของต่างวัฒนธรรม ผ่านคำถามว่าอะไรคือความเป็นไทย และอะไรคือความเป็นเยอรมัน เพื่อนำไปสู่โอกาสและอนาคตที่จะเติบโตอย่างแข็งแรงบนทุนทางวัฒนธรรมของเราเอง
นิทรรศการ “สิ่งที่มองไม่เห็น” จัดแสดงของใช้ในชีวิตประจำวันทั้งหมด 50 ชิ้น จากประเทศที่ให้ความสำคัญกับการนำธรรมเนียมประเพณี ประวัติศาสตร์ และวิทยาการความสร้างสรรค์มาพัฒนาเศรษฐกิจอย่างไม่หยุดนิ่งอย่างประเทศไทยและเยอรมนี รวมถึงส่วนวิดีทัศน์ที่นำเสนอภาพถ่ายวิถีชีวิตความเป็นอยู่และภาพยนต์สั้นที่เล่าถึงการแลกเปลี่ยนมุมมองต่างวัฒนธรรมโดยกลุ่มนักศึกษาจากทั้งสองประเทศ นอกจากนี้ “ไม้ไผ่” ถูกใช้เป็นโครงสร้างหลักในการจัดแสดงนิทรรศการเพื่อย้ำให้เห็นถึงภูมิปัญญาความสร้างสรรค์ที่มีอยู่นับไม่ถ้วนของสิ่งที่อยู่รอบตัวแต่มักถูกละเลย
หนึ่งในภัณฑารักษ์ของนิทรรศการผู้แต่ง Very Thai: Everyday Popular Culture หนังสือที่เล่าถึงความเป็นไทยแบบที่ไทยยังคิดไม่ถึง ฟิลิป คอนเวล-สมิธห์ อธิบายถึงการนำของใช้ที่คุ้นเคยจากไทยมาจัดแสดงโดยเลือกของที่เห็นได้ถึงความเป็นวัตถุทางวัฒนธรรม ความอะลุ่มอล่วย ความเชื่อ และความสัมพันธ์ของคนในสังคม

When seeing “things” with fresh eyes, how do they reveal culture, self-perception of our own and awareness of others?
Thailand Creative & Design Center (TCDC), under Creative Economy Agency (Public Organization), in cooperation with the Goethe-Institut Thailand presents Invisible Things. Through cultural objects, the exhibition introduces stereotypes and the truth within people’s thoughts, lifestyles and characteristics. “What is typical Thai?” and “What’s typical German?” Invisible Things approaches these questions in various ways that lead to the buildup on our own cultural capitals.
“Invisible Things” exhibits the selection of 50 everyday objects from Thailand and Germany whose constant economic and social growth fostered by traditions, history, wisdom and creativity. Short films produced by Thai and German students, accompanying with portrait photographs of these two nations also reflect their mentality and lifestyles. Moreover, the interaction between common objects from different cultures is displayed in bamboo structures that gives a new perspective that could change your perception of the invisible value in ordinary things. The more we see it around us, the less visible it gets. Therefore, this exhibition uses bamboo as a way to make invisible things more visible.
In curating the Thai objects, Philip Cornwel-Smith, one of the exhibition curators and the author of remarkable Very Thai: Everyday Popular Culture investigated what gives a thing cultural meaning, and what shows the Thai traits of adaptation, flexibility, local beliefs and social bond.
