Following the success of the first Working with
: Art, Education & Cross-Sector Collaboration conference in Bangkok, October 2016, where discussions centred on the methods of working with people-centred processes and not on the activities and production of works ‘for’ or ‘about’ others. Such methods prioritises engaged listening, self-determined participation, shared ownership and sustainable collaborative structures, and in 2016, these were applied on cross-sector activities in arts & health, arts education & management and arts in community. The processes include paying attention to relationships between individuals, to recognising how power relationships influence interactions through constructions and interplay of subjective positions. It would be interesting to find out how these shared knowledge have been applied since then and what kinds of new insights have emerged.
This forthcoming conference aims to continue these discussions and investigate their application in cross disciplinary praxis (theory<>practice) and how frameworks from holistic education and critical processes can contribute to learning and establishing ethical knowledge to sustain a praxis. On the all, the conference seeks to generate active and continuing exchanges that can nurture ongoing development of critical knowledge and experiences that avoid the flaws of the modernist trajectory built solely on self-enlightenment and ego-centred creation.
This conference will engage with cross-disciplinary art, theatre and cultural practitioners and researchers whose practices are based in or related to the Southeast Asian region. It aims to nurture criticality and investigate dialogical and participative processes and structures in a constructive manner and to develop cross-sector collaborations. The topics of the panels and workshops are under deliberation and are conceived to expand on participants’ capabilities in areas such as arts & health, holistic research, and social entrepreneurship. Contributions in this conference will be included in a Reader on Praxis that was initiated after the first conference.
Conference methods will follow academic artistic research procedures in terms of convenorship and participation. The conference is self-funded and the categories of participation are discussants, selected presenters and assigned respondents.
