Prateep Suthathongthai is an artist who is intelligently hiding social issues in his works.

After 2 years of success from “A Little Rich Country” (2018) to “Dusit Thani Province” (2020). In the year 2022, Suthathongthai comes back with his old interest of copying various Thai prints’ covers whether it be books, newspapers, magazines, or novels which are everlasting influential pictures of Thai society. These paintings of Suthathongthai will spark a conversation and interpretation of your view.

Suthathongthai is not copied as a picture to a picture but instead copying the object to the image, translating historical objects into the form of paintings. Each trace communicates the antiquity of the object to the audience and what each defect means.

The paintings in this exhibition have become visible signs, clear and unmistakable. It can convey a message about the unseen. The viewer‘s eye will be a significant ‘variable’ that will help widen the wound. If the physicality of painting is a layer of paint on a flat plane, it is even more interesting to think about how the objects we see as paintings are and how time interferes with the memories. “Old Wounds” may be evidence that does not provide a clear historical picture but hidden beneath is a story of expectation and curiosity that cannot resurface. We can only associate these paintings with fading memories or thoughts; however, this is perhaps the only and most obvious one in the history of this ridiculous country.
