Nature will spill from the minds of top Thai contemporary artists and into six innovative, site-specific installations to be discovered for an entire month along a skywalk in the heart of Bangkok.

From Oct. 13 through Nov. 13, art will leap out of the gallery and into the public sphere for the enjoyment of all at the Ratchaprasong.

Six artists – Sakarin Krue-On, Montri Toemsombat, Haritorn Akarapat, Ruangsak Anuwatwimon, Noraset Vaisayakul and Sophie Kao Arya – will transform the skywalk between the BTS Chitlom station and Central World with their interpretations of nature in an urban space for this celebration of Thai creativity.

A few steps down from Chitlom station discover nature and futurist fantasy fused in Montri Toemsombat’s bamboo vehicle. Next, stride through Ruangsak Anuwatwimon’s sculpted vessels containing the holiness and fragility of the earth before poring over a heavenly landscape of sacred delights in Noraset Vaisayakul’s detailed miniature world. Go on and risk eye-contact with the peculiar and unearthly heads of Haritorn Akarapat, let yourself flow through Sophie Kao Arya’s dazzling field of suspended flowers, where the universe can be found in every hand-painted fractal petal and finally meet six dancers from another world and time by way of Sakarin Krue-On.

Nature’s heart beats at the core of this in-situ exhibition which tasked the artists to work with local craftsmen and materials while juggling notions of what nature means to us, now. The results are nothing less than barometers of ecological attunement.
Whether conceptual, thought provoking, critical or poetic, the works are infused with the six artists’ very personal approaches to the theme. The event also serves as a great introduction to some of the most prominent contemporary Thai artists and their contributions toward shifting how we relate to nature.

The Ratchaprasong Art Maze is an annual event by the Ratchaprasong Square Association and supported by TAT, the Tourism Authority of Thailand, under the project Thailand Art Walk.

The Art Maze 2016, Urban by Nature was conceived and curated by Myrtille Tibayrenc, director of the Toot Yung Gallery and co-director of the Bukruk Urban Arts Festival.

เริ่มต้นที่สถานีชิดลม คุณจะได้ค้นพบโลกแฟนตาซีกับผลงานยานยนต์แห่งอนาคตจากไผ่สานของคุณ มนตรี เติมสมบัติ ตามด้วยงานประติมากรรมแจกันศักดิ์สิทธิ์ ระคนความเปราะบางของโลกโดยคุณเรือง ศักดิ์ อนุวัตรวิมล ต่อด้วยผลงานของคุณนรเศรษฐ์ไวศยกุล โลกย่อส่วนที่เต็มไปด้วยรายละเอียดแสน งดงามซึ่งเป็นดินแดนแห่งสวรรค์เปี่ยมล้นด้วยความปิติต้องมนต์ จากนั้นคุณจะได้พบกับศีรษะอันแสน ประหลาดของคุณหริธร อัครพัฒน์ ตามต่อด้วยนักเต้นทั้ง 6 คนจากโลกใบอื่นในกาลเวลาที่แตกต่างจากเรา โดยคุณสาครินทร์ เครืออ่อน จบท้ายปลายทางกับเหล่าหมู่ดอกไม้ซึ่งแต่ละกลีบมีรายละเอียดของจักรวาล แฝงอยู่โดยคุณ Sophie Kao Arya

ศิลปินเลือกใช้ช่างฝีมือ และวัสดุท้องถิ่น ผสมผสานการตีความความหมายของธรรมชาติ ผลลัพธ์คือ ระบบนิเวศแห่งจักรวาลที่มีตัวตนของศิลปินทั้งหก ถ่ายทอดเป็นศิลปะเชิงแนวคิด กระตุ้นความคิด การวิพากษ์ และบทกวี

อีเวนท์ครั้งนี้ยังถูกจัดขึ้นเพื่อแนะนำศิลปินร่วมสมัยชั้นแนวหน้าของไทย พร้อมเผยแพร่ความตั้งใจที่ เปลี่ยนทัศนคติที่มนุษย์มีต่อสิ่งแวดล้อม
