Manycuts Artspace l ari is pleased to present a new experimental exhibition titled Outside-in: Sonic Geography created by After Art (Sajib Azard) This sound installation invites everyone to take part in and immerse into hearing/listening experiences in our exhibition space. The exhibition will be on view from 8 January 2022, 12.00 pm onward.

 

Outside-in: Sonic Geography is a site-specific sound installation. This is a spatial experimental work onto Manycuts Artspace l ari’s space including exhibition rooms and surrounding areas of our gallery as well as the gallery’s spatial history and the artist’s owned experiences.

 

Regarding the artistic process, the site of Manycuts Ari presents something unique in an area increasingly more and more developed, and with gentrification in full force. And this uniqueness becomes even more apparent when it comes to the sounds around the space - ie. The Sonic Geography. This has inspired After Art to craft a sound design process/ generative schema - that takes the environmental sounds as input to create a subtly evolving soundscape as the output.

 

The collected sounds are emerging in real-time. Although the sounds/noises were processed, they reflect the unpredictability and the range of the sonic palette around the gallery.

 

In this exhibition, audiences are going to experience the contemplation of the surrounding environment. They will be hearing/listening in a distinctive way. Had painting or photography been a way to record times and memories, sounds would also have created memories and impressions.
