I'll be back
A Solo Exhibition by Preyawit Nilachulaka
SAC Gallery X Rosewood Bangkok Hotel
Preyawit Nilachulaka’s latest body of works interrogates humans’ existence through the humorous depiction of zombie characters that know neither life nor death. While zombies’ immortality renders their existence meaningless, their only flash of life is a brief moment during which they are able to choose their manner of death, or guide their body toward its death-adjacent state. This series of artworks portrays several near-death situations that animate zombies’ rather dull existences and allow them to reconnect with life—as metaphors for our own aimless errance and search for meaning.
Say Cheese!!, 2021, Acrylic on linen, 50 x 75 cm
Through the exhibition I’ll be back, Preyawit Nilachulaka presents a comical viewpoint towards death. Viewers are embarked on the same adventures as the artist’s characters, following and participating in these escapades. From personal reflections on the meaning of death to the act of imagining multiple pathways leading to it, the show sparks audiences’ sense of individuality and awareness of their singularity among other living beings.
