Tashi Brauen
Hold On To That Paper Again, an exhibition by Tashi Brauen, opens today at SAC Gallery, Bangkok, and online in the Ronewa Art Projects online viewing room. Together we bring you two series of works by Swiss-Tibetan artist Tashi Brauen that employ vibrant color and different tactile techniques of manipulating paper and paint.
1. DU Series
Brauen's Du series draws on the elementary concept of printmaking and a playful activity he remembers from childhood: pressing paint between two surfaces. This series emerged from coronavirus lockdown conditions, where Brauen began experimenting with materials found in his Zurich studio. He repurposed pages from old issues of a renowned Swiss art and culture magazine as paper surfaces for his colorful symmetrical print experiments. |
2. Cracks Series
Brauen's Cracks series can be described as drawing with texture, creating abstract works that border on relief sculptures. By bending and folding his pliable color-field paintings, he extracts cracked lines and raised creases from the flat cardboard surfaces and exposes the material's interior structure. Brauen's thorough experimentation with his mark-making processes means he works with intention and control, though the physical quality and behavior of his materials shape the final image.
**Opening reception postponed**
Due to current COVID-19 government guidelines, the opening reception planned for April 23 will be postponed until further notice. We look forward to celebrating this fantastic exhibition with you as soon as possible. Stay tuned for updates!
