Design Process & Business Model Innovation

IED Istituto Europeo di Design will participate in two of the most relevant Design related events in Thailand, in occasion of the celebration of the 150th anniversary of bilateral relations between Italy and Thailand.

 

- Bangkok Design Week, in partnership with TCDC (Thailand Creative & Design Center)

 

- Italian Design Day, in partnership with the Embassy of Italy in Bangkok.

           

            The two events will be linked by the competition ThaInnovation: a call for ideas on food related product experiences able to wrap product and business scenarios around people’s behaviour and desires.

 

The prize will be a Summer course in one of IED campuses.

 

              Federico Ferretti IED Ambassador expert on Design Driven Innovation will start a dialogue with the design community in Bangkok through a video-conference introducing the evolution of design into design (driven) innovation and calling participants to deep dive into Italian food culture in order to understand and create meaningful product experiences. The most original projects will be collected and shortlisted during a workshop and one student will be  awarded with a Summer course in one of IED campuses during the ceremonies of the IDD.

1. CREATIVE THINKING MEETS BUSINESS LOGIC - A VIDEO CONFERENCE  AT TCDC COMMONS

During Bangkok Design Week, in partnership with TCDC (Thailand Creative & Design Center), IED Ambassador Federico Ferretti will conduct the video conference Creative Thinking Meets Business Logicon the following themes:

  • Design Driven Innovation
  • Design Evolution (from designing for people to designing with people)
  • Organize to fuel innovation (designing with people)
  • Design Ecosystem (Brand – Service – Product /Configuration/Experience Offering)

During the video conference, the competition ThaInnovation will be announced: a call for ideas on food related product experiences able to wrap product and business scenarios around people’s behaviour and desires.

Federico Ferretti

 

Federico is happiest where intuition, business and technology intersect. He believesthat the best design is the one that dissolves into behaviours and that questions are often longer-lasting than answers. He is the Founder and Head of Design Innovation Center of Midea, a Fortune 500 Company with one of the most comprehensive ranges in the home appliance industry.

Federico was the Managing Director of Continuum, one of the main global design innovation consultancies worldwide where for more than 12 years he played a key role in leading both tactical and strategic innovation programs helping to wrap business scenarios around people's desires and dreams. He had excelled in the creation of innovative and meaningful concepts, products and services solutions for different international clients such as Allsteel, Bic, Royal Unibrew - Ceres, GM, NEC, Fastweb, Haier, Illy, Imetec, BTicino, Unilever, I-Robot, Medela, 3M, Sennheiser and Samsung.

Prior to joining Continuum, Federico co-founded uno : uno designers studio, testing asimplified approach to the product design and exploring the boundaries between process and persuasion. Previously he was Associate Creative Director at Frog Design, leading the ID team and focusing at the convergence of design and interaction. In the early stages of his career he was a toy designer at Mattel and Fischer-Price. Federico is an experienced lecturer on product design and design innovation matters, with participations to various educational venues: he taught at NABA in Milan, IUAV in Venice, IED in Turin and Scuola Italiana di Design in Padova.

He’s currently the Coordinator of the the 1st Level Master in Innovation Strategy & Product in IED Milan.

Federico holds a Bachelor of Industrial Design degree from IED Milan.

IED Ambassador Federico Ferretti will host the workshop Pizza Innovation”. A design thinking workshop to understand, and properly extend, evolve and envision innovative solutions related to local pizza preparation and consumption behaviours. The aim of the workshop is to help participants in testing and embracing an holistic mindset to properly frame a challenge and create meaningful solutions balancing people desires, business viability and technical feasibility.

3. LECTURE AT ITALIAN DESIGN DAY

In occasion of the Italian Design Day, IED Ambassador Federico Ferretti will conduct the conference Chi Non Vespa Non Mangia Le Mele: The Vespa Storya brief introduction to user centered design and design innovation through the genesis of the legendary Vespa scooter.+Description of the finalist projects and awarding of the best project. The prize will be a Summer course in one of IED campuses.

An “IED Alumni Talk” will be part of the event: Thai designers, former IED students, will share their experiences as students at IED.
