เทศกาล Chiang Mai Design Week 2017 (CMDW 2017) จะจัดขึ้นวันที่ 6 – 10 ธันวาคม 2560 ในย่านศิลปวัฒนธรรมท้องถิ่น และกระจายไปทั่วเมืองเชียงใหม่ นำเสนอนวัตกรรมงานออกแบบ หรือโปรเจ็กต์ใหม่ที่ตอบโจทย์การดำรงชีวิตของผู้คนในปัจจุบัน พร้อมเชิญชวนนักออกแบบและนักสร้างสรรค์ในเมืองเชียงใหม่และจากเมืองอื่นๆ มาเฉลิมฉลองวัฒนธรรมความสร้างสรรค์ พบปะแบ่งปันความรู้ด้านงานออกแบบร่วมกัน ตลอดจนขยายการสร้างประสบการณ์ร่วมและแรงบันดาลใจจากงานออกแบบไปสู่เด็ก เยาวชน ชุมชน นักท่องเที่ยว และผู้ที่สนใจงานออกแบบ ด้วยกิจกรรมหลากหลายหัวข้อและรูปแบบที่กระตุ้นแรงบันดาลใจ ต่อยอดความคิด ถ่ายทอดประโยชน์ของงานออกแบบในการดำรงชีวิตสมัยใหม่ และร่วมกันก้าวไปสู่ความเป็นเมืองสร้างสรรค์ที่มีรากเหง้าทางศิลปวัฒนธรรมและทักษะฝีมือ

โปรแกรมกิจกรรมในปีนี้ ภายใต้เนื้อหาหลักในธีม Crafted Life ที่นำเสนอมุมมองต่อวิถีชีวิตความเป็นอยู่อันละเมียดละไมของผู้คนในท้องถิ่น ซึ่งมีอิทธิพลต่อการสร้างสรรค์งานออกแบบและงานหัตถกรรมที่ใช้สอยในชีวิตประจำวัน งานออกแบบที่ใส่ใจในรายละเอียดและเทคโนโลยีการผลิตสมัยใหม่จะสามารถเชื่อมต่อทักษะฝีมือ ศิลปวัฒนธรรมท้องถิ่นและความพิถีพิถัน ให้วิวัฒนาการไปพร้อมกับการใช้ชีวิตของเราและเมืองในยุคใหม่ต่อไปได้

เทศกาล CMDW 2017 ขอเชิญชวนผู้ประกอบการธุรกิจ นักออกแบบ นักสร้างสรรค์ ศิลปิน และช่างฝีมือทุกคน ร่วมเฉลิมฉลองวัฒนธรรมความสร้างสรรค์ไปพร้อมกับเมืองเชียงใหม่ และร่วมเป็นส่วนหนึ่งในการนำเสนอศักยภาพงานออกแบบที่จะผลักดันการเติบโตของวงการและอุตสาหกรรมสร้างสรรค์ไปด้วยกัน โดยผู้ที่สนใจสามารถส่งข้อมูลผลงานการออกแบบหรือกิจกรรมที่เป็นไปตามหลักเกณฑ์ให้ผู้จัดงานเทศกาล CMDW2017 พิจารณาคัดเลือกต่อไป

เทศกาลงานออกแบบเชียงใหม่ หรือ Chiang Mai Design Week คือเทศกาลที่เหล่านักสร้างสรรค์หลากสาขาอาชีพ นักออกแบบ นักออกแบบรุ่นใหม่ ช่างฝีมือ ศิลปิน ผู้ประกอบการธุรกิจในเมืองเชียงใหม่ ได้ร่วมกันจัดขึ้นเป็นโอกาสพิเศษในรอบปี เพื่อนำเสนอนวัตกรรมงานออกแบบ หรือโปรเจ็กต์ใหม่ที่ตอบโจทย์การใช้ชีวิตของผู้คนในปัจจุบัน ตลอดจนเป็นพื้นที่สนทนาแลกเปลี่ยนมุมมองและประสบการณ์ พบปะและแบ่งปันความรู้ด้านการออกแบบ พร้อมเชิญชวนนักออกแบบและนักสร้างสรรค์จากเมืองอื่นในประเทศและต่างประเทศ มาร่วมเฉลิมฉลองวัฒนธรรมความสร้างสรรค์และศักยภาพงานออกแบบด้วยกัน พร้อมเชื่อมโยงเครือข่ายความร่วมมือและขยายช่องทางธุรกิจทั้งในประเทศและต่างประเทศให้เติบโตอย่างเต็มศักยภาพ นำไปสู่การส่งเสริมสภาพแวดล้อมให้เอื้ออำนวยต่อการทำงานของนักสร้างสรรค์และผู้ประกอบการธุรกิจในอุตสาหกรรมสร้างสรรค์

เทศกาลไม่ได้จำกัดขอบเขตอยู่เพียงกลุ่มนักออกแบบหรือผู้ทำงานสร้างสรรค์เท่านั้น แต่เทศกาลยังให้ความสำคัญต่อการสร้างประสบการณ์ร่วมกับงานออกแบบไปสู่เด็กเยาวชน ชุมชน นักท่องเที่ยว และผู้ที่สนใจงานออกแบบ ด้วยกิจกรรมหลากหลายรูปแบบ เช่น นิทรรศการ งานออกแบบขนาดใหญ่ ศิลปะและดนตรี ที่ไม่เพียงสร้างความน่าตื่นตาตื่นใจและกระตุ้นแรงบันดาลใจ แต่ยังอธิบายประโยชน์ของงานออกแบบที่มีต่อการดำรงชีวิตสมัยใหม่ รวมทั้งส่งเสริมบรรยากาศความมีชีวิตชีวาของเมืองให้เต็มไปด้วยความคิดสร้างสรรค์ และที่สำคัญ คือ เป็นการก้าวไปสู่ความเป็นเมืองสร้างสรรค์ ที่มาจากรากฐานทางศิลปวัฒนธรรมและทักษะฝีมือช่างในอนาคต

ในแต่ละปี เทศกาลเกิดขึ้นทั่วตัวเมืองเชียงใหม่ในย่านต่างๆ ซึ่งมีองค์ประกอบพื้นที่แตกต่างกันไป ตั้งแต่ย่านอนุสาวรีย์สามกษัตริย์ที่มั่งคั่งไปด้วยศิลปวัฒนธรรมและวิถีชีวิตท้องถิ่น ไปถึงย่านที่ตั้ง TCDC เชียงใหม่ แหล่งความรู้ด้านการออกแบบที่ทันสมัย และกระจายสู่พื้นที่สำคัญอื่นๆ ทั่วเมือง ที่พร้อมให้ทุกคนได้เดินเยี่ยมชมเมืองในมุมมองที่แตกต่างออกไป และสัมผัสกับกิจกรรมสร้างสรรค์หลากหลายรูปแบบอย่างใกล้ชิด เทศกาลมี 3 แกนหลัก ดังนี้

1. Business of Design
การนำเสนอผลงานออกแบบและผลิตภัณฑ์ใหม่ซึ่งตอบโจทย์การดำรงชีวิตของผู้คนและแสดงถึงความเป็นไปได้ใหม่ๆ ในการพัฒนาคุณภาพชีวิตที่ถูกคิดและพัฒนาขึ้นโดยนักออกแบบ นักออกแบบรุ่นใหม่ ผู้ประกอบการธุรกิจ ช่างฝีมือ นักศึกษา ในเชียงใหม่ ในประเทศ และจากต่างประเทศ รวมถึงประเทศเพื่อนบ้าน อาทิ พม่า ลาว กัมพูชา อินโดนีเซีย เป็นต้น ควบคู่ไปกับการพัฒนาความเข้มแข็งทางธุรกิจ การเชื่อมโยงเครือข่ายธุรกิจ และคู่ค้า ที่เพิ่มโอกาสในการสร้างรายได้และขยายช่องทางธุรกิจให้แก่นักออกแบบรุ่นใหม่ นักออกแบบและผู้ประกอบการธุรกิจ กิจกรรมไฮไลท์คือ Design Showcase, Pop Market และ Business Matching

2. Network of Creators
การพบปะระหว่างนักสร้างสรรค์หลายสาขา ไม่ว่าจะเป็น นักออกแบบ สถาปนิก ช่างฝีมือ ศิลปิน เมคเกอร์ นักวิจัย นักการตลาด ที่อยู่ในเชียงใหม่และจากเมืองอื่นๆ ในเวทีเสวนาตั้งแต่การประชุมวิชาการนานาชาติ เวิร์กช็อปขนาดเล็ก จนถึงงานเลี้ยงสังสรรค์ ทำให้ผู้คนในวัฒนธรรมความสร้างสรรค์ได้มาแลกเปลี่ยน มุมมองความรู้และแบ่งปันประสบการณ์ในหัวข้อที่แปลกใหม่และก้าวข้ามวิทยาการ เกิดการสร้างมุมมองและเห็นถึงความเป็นไปได้ใหม่ๆ ในการตอบโจทย์วิถีชีวิต การบริโภค งานออกแบบ นวัตกรรม เทคโนโลยี โมเดลธุรกิจ การพัฒนาเมืองสำหรับอนาคต ตลอดจนขยายเครือข่ายการทำงานระหว่างผู้คนจากต่างสาขาอาชีพได้อย่างกว้างขวางยิ่งขึ้น กิจกรรมไฮไลท์คือ Talk, Workshop, International Projects และ Networking Party

3. Creative District
การส่งเสริมสภาพแวดล้อมย่านเมืองเก่าและชุมชนโดยรอบที่เต็มไปด้วยศิลปวัฒนธรรมและวิถีชีวิตท้องถิ่นให้เอื้อต่อการค้นหาแรงบันดาลใจและการทำงานของนักสร้างสรรค์และผู้อยู่อาศัย รวมถึงบ่มเพาะการเกิดขึ้นของไอเดียใหม่อย่างต่อเนื่อง ด้วยโปรเจ็กต์และกิจกรรมในพื้นที่สาธารณะและพื้นที่สร้างสรรค์ทั่วเมือง ที่ไม่เพียงแต่นำงานออกแบบเข้าไปยกระดับการใช้ชีวิตประจำวันของผู้คนดีขึ้น แต่ยังเชื่อมโยงรากฐานศิลปวัฒนธรรมเข้ากับวิถีชีวิตปัจจุบัน และกระตุ้นความอยากรู้ต่อความเป็นไปได้ใหม่ๆ ของเมืองในอนาคต กิจกรรมไฮไลท์คือ Design Exhibition, Art & Music และ Tour
และนี่ก็คือ กิจกรรมทั้งหมดซึ่งจะเกิดขึ้นใน Chiang Mai Design Week เทศกาลที่เหล่านักออกแบบ ช่างฝีมือ ผู้ประกอบการธุรกิจ ร้านค้า ศิลปิน ชุมชน นักเรียนนักศึกษา และองค์กรต่างๆ จะร่วมกันเนรมิตบรรยากาศเมืองสร้างสรรค์ พร้อมเชิญชวนให้ผู้สนใจมาร่วมเฉลิมฉลองวัฒนธรรมสร้างสรรค์และงานออกแบบไปพร้อมกันกับเมืองเชียงใหม่

Chiang Mai Design Week

Chiang Mai Design Week is an annual festival jointly held by creators from different industries, established and upcoming designers, craftsmen, artists and entrepreneurs in Chiang Mai to present design innovations or new projects that cater to the needs of modern living. It also provides a conversation space where people can get together and share design knowledge as local and international creators are invited to celebrate the creative culture and the potential of design. Moreover, the event will help build collaboration networks and expand local and international business opportunities, which lead to a better working environment for creators and entrepreneurs in creative industries.

The festival, however, reaches beyond designers and creative professionals. It also focuses on creating shared experience with design works among the younger generation, local communities, tourists and anyone interested in design through various activities such as exhibitions, large-scale installations, arts and music. Not only to create a sense of awe and spark inspiration, the activities also explain the benefits of design on modern living and enliven the city’s creative atmosphere. Importantly, they further Chiang Mai’s development effort towards becoming a Creative City with deep cultural and artisan roots.

Each year, the festival takes place throughout the city of Chiang Mai in several districts with different defining elements: from the Three Kings Monument district with its rich arts and cultural heritage and local way of life to the TCDC Chiang Mai area which is a source of modern design knowledge. Everyone is invited to take a walk and see the city in a different perspective while experiencing various creative activities. The festival is divided into 3 parts as followed:

1. Business of Design
This part showcases new design works and products that fulfill lifestyle needs and show new possibilities in improving the quality of life, and were created and developed by established and upcoming designers, entrepreneurs, craftsmen and students from Chiang Mai, Thailand and abroad, including neighboring countries such as Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia and Indonesia. It also aims to strengthen business relationships and connect business partners to expand income opportunities for designers and entrepreneurs.
Highlighted activities include Design Showcases, Pop Market, and Business Matching.

2. Network of Creators
The meeting platform ranges from international conferences, small workshops to socialising parties and brings together creators from different disciplines: be it designers, architects, craftsmen, artists, makers, researchers or marketers from Chiang Mai and other cities. People in creative culture will exchange their views, knowledge, and experiences in order to open up new perspectives and possibilities in many topics: from fulfilling lifestyle needs, consumerism, innovation, technology, and business model to urban design for tomorrow. It also aims to expand the working network of people from across professions.
Highlighted activities include Talks, Workshops, International Projects and Networking Parties.

3. Creative District
The focus is on promoting Chiang Mai’s old city and its community famed for its rich arts and cultural tradition and the local way of life. For creators and residents, this area is the place to find inspiration and to work productively as well as an incubation of new ideas. The projects and activities to be held in public and creative spaces across the city will not only use design to improve the quality of daily life, but also to connect Chiang Mai’s arts and cultural roots with the current way of life and stimulate curiosity about the city’s new possibilities.
Highlighted activities include Design Exhibitions, Art & Music and Tours.

And those are the activities to be enjoyed during Chiang Mai Design Week, where designers, craftsmen, entrepreneurs, shop owners, artists, local communities, students and various organisations will join hands in order to build a creative city environment and invite all interested parties to celebrate design and creative culture together with the city of Chiang Mai.

This year’s activity program focuses around the theme “Crafted Life” to present a glimpse into Chiang Mai’s gentle way of life which influences the design creation and handicrafts used in daily life. Detail-oriented design and modern production technology can connect craft skills, local arts and culture, and meticulousness so that they can evolve together with our way of life today and the urban society.
All creative entrepreneurs, designers, creators, artists and artisans are invited to celebrate the creative culture with the city of Chiang Mai and take part in presenting your design that will help drive the growth of our creative industries.
