Event Information

In this special talk, Asst. Prof. Pirasri Povatong will discuss the history of this century-old historic landmark, in particular, the lives of the couple behind its founding—Jennie Neilson Hays and Dr. Thomas Heyward Hays; the library's role as a cultural institution since the late-19th century; and the multi-ethnic character of the neighborhood of Bangrak district.

Pirasri will also offer an in-depth analysis of the building's design and construction; a discussion of library architect Mario Tamagno’s works during his 25-year tenure in Bangkok; and how Tamagno adapted classical architecture for a tropical climate and modern functional requirements.

Entrance is free of charge, but seating is limited to 80 and advance booking is required at neilson.library@gmail.com or 02 233 1731. Donations are appreciated and welcome.
