House of Lucie presents ‘Trashion as an Art’ talk and workshop by Filipino artist Francis Sollano

House of Lucie presents a series of lectures on trash art and how trash impacts communities around the world. Aimed to inspire the younger generation to become aware of environmental impacts of trash, Francis Sollano will present his project to the Bangkok audience on April 11.
The half an hour presentation will be followed by an interactive workshop with the audience. The workshop will focus on art as a catalyst for sustainable development. Francis will give examples how wearable art can reach out to communities and inspire social change.
During the workshop, the audience will be invited to use provided materials to create their own form of art.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Francis Sollano is an artist who pioneered contemporary, couture trashion art in the Philippines and is known for his takes on creative reuse of materials into wearable pieces. He is a community youth leader pushing various environmental, youth and women empowerment agenda on an international scale. A graduate of the University of the Philippines, he incorporates his love for the natural environment in his delicate handmade creations while he works with several stakeholders and governments on promoting environmental agenda. His works have been shown in major cities across the globe, London, New York, Paris, Tokyo, Singapore and Bangkok to name a few, and were featured in international design publications.
Co-founder of Youth for a Livable Cebu (YLC), he has been promoting livability and sustainability advocacies on various platforms. He makes use of YLC as a platform to expand his community works focused on the role of the youth towards nation-building and urban sustainability, flourishing beyond borders and expanding their impacts.
He is recognized by World Economic Forum as a Cultural Leader and a member of the Global Shapers Community. In 2015, he received the distinction by the British Council as an Elevate Awardee for using his creativity on various community works. He is also the latest recipient of the United Nations Environmental Program Fellowship Award as one of the Asia Pacific Leaders on sustainable design.
