The Trouble with Poking Holes
Humans poke holes.
Eating the forbidden fruit, licking the psychedelic fungus, inhaling the heady scents, fingers delving into dark orifices, consensual or sometimes not, hoping the inhabitants won’t bite, wanting to possess every beautiful thing, consuming the world.
In faraway lands, poking holes in the status quo. Peppering constitutions, traditions and institutions with ideological bullet holes.
Creators and destroyers, mini maniacal gods, making art and tearing down cities.
With one hand, wielding a paint brush, fiddle, pen, or chisel, creating worlds with fingers and minds. With the other hand, yeeting single use artifacts of capitalist culture into the ocean, Starbucks cups bobbing in the waves forever.
Programming the drones that blow villages sky high. Stoking the flames, sending smoke, pouring through chimneys high.
The last hole, the red button of nuclear annihilation.
Salvation. Salvation. Salvation.
The Trouble with Poking Holes connects a group of contemporary artists and their dedication to their craft as they approach the unspoken troublesome truth of modernity under one roof. Their artworks may be different but the one element tying them together is their curiosity on life, the environment, society and the addiction to poking at topics expressing uncomfortable truths.
