THE BIG BLUE VALVE (Hua chup see namngoen) (2021)

Technique/Material: Casted Polyethylene

The site-specific sculpture picked up ordinary things in everyday life that we have seen and are familiar with the inflatable toys or swimming rings by the pool or by the sea, the rubber air valve. Presented in a pop art context, to create a dialogue with a specific exhibition area reflecting the concept of the human creative process as this message:

INWARD = OUTWARD

INWARD OUTWARD

INWARD > OUTWARD

INWARD < OUTWARD

If the pencil shell, the previous works of Pakpoom, is a symbol of creativity's sweat. This rubber valve sculpture (made with the same materials, processes, and functions as the authentic rubber valve) can be interpreted as a creative work's breath. To fill things and inflate them until they take shape.

The exhibition also includes his silkscreen prints.

About the Artist

Pakpoom Silaphan, Thai artist whose artworks are outstanding and recognized internationally, he is widely known at the international level from the pop art artworks that portray the most famous and legendary people in various fields. He presents them in a black and white newspaper-like merged with basic but stylish cartoon drawing lines, and creates those portraits on the old metal soft drink billboard advertisement material, he also relayed the figures of various legends on the old wooden crates of soda bottles. It makes the portraits on the sign stand incredibly charming.

Pakpoom has his works exhibited in the leading gallery exhibitions in London, Liverpool - UK, and many other countries, such as New York and California - the USA, Japan, India, Hong Kong, and France. The world-class museums, The New York Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), The Brooklyn Museum, collect his artworks. So does the world's leading contemporary art collector, Sir Paul Smith, Minnie Driver, Richard Curtis, etc.

It is an opportunity for Thai art fans to experience the world-class pop art of Pakpoom for the first time at Xspace Gallery.
