เก่าไปใหม่มาเป็นผลงานจิตรกรรมของตนุพล เอนอ่อน ศิลปินพูดถึงสังคมในปัจจุบัน ที่การเข้าถึงข้อมูลข่าวสาร การพูดคุยติดต่อ และ ย้ายถิ่นฐานเป็นไปได้อย่างสะดวกรวดเร็ว ทุกสิ่งอย่างต่างเชื่อมโยงกัน เกิดการผสมผสานและส่งผ่านทางวัฒนธรรม
เอกลักษณ์และลักษณะเฉพาะของแต่ละท้องถิ่น เริ่มมีการเปลี่ยนแปลง มีรูปแบบและการตีความที่ต่างไปจากเดิม การรับอิทธิพลต่างท้องถิ่น ต่างภาษา ต่างชนชาติ ส่งผลให้เกิดภาพสลับสับเปลี่ยนระหว่างศิลปะและวัฒนธรรมที่มีความแตกต่าง ทำให้เกิดเป็น "ภาพลักษณ์" หรือ "ภาษาภาพ" ใหม่
ในผลงานชุดนี้ ศิลปินเลือกที่จะสะท้อนแนวคิดนี้ผ่านการใช้รูปแบบของงาน จิตรกรรมฝาผนังท้องถิ่นของทางภาคอีสานหรือที่เรียกว่า “ฮูปแต้ม” โดยสัญลักษณ์หรือตัวละครในงานการ์ตูนร่วมสมัย ถูกนำมาผสมผสานและสร้างสรรค์ขึ้น เพื่อเปรียบเทียบความเปลี่ยนแปลงไปของสังคมและวัฒนธรรมไทย ในยุคสมัยปัจจุบัน
‘In With The New’ is a series of 20 acrylic on canvas paintings by Thai artist Tanupon En-on. The series is his interpretation of modern society where news and information is highly accessible and people are able to interact and travel freely. Everything is interconnected; all cultural aspects influence each other and have become intertwined.
Local characteristics and identity are now harder to define with the influx of external influence. Traditional art and culture are constantly being transformed and re-interpreted resulting in new visual language.
In this series, the artist explores this issue by looking through the E-sarn artistic past of Hoop Tam, a unique traditional mural painting that uses vivid colors. En-on experiments with the symbolic combination of old and new characters, to reflect on the current changes in Thai society.
