โปรแกรม Cultural Studies Film เดือนสิงหาคมนี้ ขอเสนอภาพยนตร์ที่เกี่ยวกับโศกนาฏกรรมอันเกิดจากเหตุการณ์ทิ้งระเบิดที่ฮิโรชิมาเมื่อ 71 ปีที่ผ่านมา ภาพยนตร์ขาว-ดำ เรื่อง Black Rain (黒い雨 Kuroi Ame) นำแสดงโดย Yoshiko Tanaka และ Kazuo Kitamura และกำกับโดย Shohei Imamura ออกฉายในญี่ปุ่นเมื่อปี 1988 โดยสร้างจากวรรณกรรมชื่อเดียวกันที่เขียนโดย Ibuse Masuji เมื่อปี 1965 สำหรับภาพยนตร์ได้รับรางวัลมากมายทั้งในญี่ปุ่นและจากต่างประเทศ รวมถึงรางวัลจากเทศกาลภาพยนตร์เมืองคานส์ในปี 1989

A monthly cultural studies session hosted by university lecturer and author Viriya Sawangchot. This month we will be screening film on the marks of the 71st anniversary of atomic bomb in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Black Rain (黒い雨 Kuroi Ame) is a 1988 Japanese film directed by Shohei Imamura and based on the novel of the same name by Ibuse Masuji in 1965. The novel is based on events of the devastations and the livelihoods caused by the atomic bombing of Hiroshima.

Screening starts at 8 pm and will be followed by a casual discussion


►SHOHEI IMAMURA
Shohei Imamura (今村 昌平 Imamura Shōhei, 15 September 1926 – 30 May 2006) was a Japanese film director. Imamura is the only Japanese director to win two Palme d'Or awards (Balck Rain and The Eel). Shohei Imamura’s black & white film version of Black Rain caused a sensation after its release in 1988, winning Japanese Academy awards, Flanders International Film Festival Ghent, and a Cannes Film Festival award in 1989.

►VIRIYA SAWANGCHOT
A cultural researcher based in Bangkok, Thailand. He was an API senior fellow (2013-2014), Asian Public Intellectual program, Nippon Foundation, and has previously taught in Cultural Studies program, Research Institute for Languages and Cultures of Asia, Mahidol University, Thailand.
