LOW SELF-IMAGE LEADS TO LOW SELF ESTEEM, LEADS TO BODY DYSMORPHIA,
SELF-HARM, SELF-LOATHING, EATING
DISORDERS, COSMETIC SURGERY AND
WORSE. IN A TIME IN WHICH SOCIAL
MEDIA DOMINATES OUR LIFE AND INSISTS
WE MEDIATE OUR LOOKS TO CONFORM TO SOCIALLY ACCEPTABLE IMAGES, WE ARE IN DANGER OF BECOMING A SOCIETY EXPERIENCING PSYCHOSIS AS THE NORM. the ties that bind us ARE IN DANGER OF STRANGLING US.

ARTIST'S STATEMENT

Ever since I discovered life-drawing at art school I have been fascinated by the human body. I love its expressive possibilities and the vulnerability so evident between skin and bone.
I have drawn/painted the human figure for over 30 years. And I adore it. But more than that, far more than that, I wanted to make images that celebrated EVERYBODY. The fat, the thin, the scarred, the smooth, and the beautiful too. I wanted to make images that allowed everyone to be
heroic in their own self-image, to tackle issues of body dysmorphia and low self-image. I wanted for everyone to be able to feel good about themselves, by seeing themselves through my eyes.
Photography became the means through which I was able to explore this idea.
This is a small but prime selection of the 700+ people I have had the privilege to
photograph over the years.

EXHIBITION THEME

BODYSCRIPT

A dialogue about the human form using photography and visual metaphor

1. YOUR EVERY COLOUR IS BEAUTIFUL
A creative interpretation exploring the idea that all skin colours are equally beautiful and the colour
of our skin should not be the thing that defines us

2. WE’VE GOT YOU COVERED
In a world crippled by the pandemic we are all vulnerable yet the simple fabric mask is our first line of defense - I explore this idea metaphorically

3. CELEBRATING DIVERSITY AND DIFFERENCE
The beauty of the human body explored through semi-abstract photography that seeks to present
nudity not as titillating, but as artful and beautiful
