WTF Gallery is pleased to present a special pop-up photography installation ‘A Fleeting Home’ by Vika Sukhova from 15-18 September 2016.

I’m a world citizen. I don’t identify myself with any particular country or culture – I bet you wouldn’t be able to guess where I am from at the first sight. My home is where the spark is – an unexpected exchange of glances, an especially warm hug, that face that strikes you in the crowd - moments fleeting and disappearing. And sometimes it’s just a splash of colour. My home is where my camera is – be it a small town in Russian province, Copenhagen or Bangkok.
I am not an artist. I don’t have a mission. I simply see the beauty in everyday things and I bring it to you. This is what I love to do.

I started taking photos out of loneliness. I scrapped up the savings and bought a camera. Since then my Fujifilm is my second pair of eyes, my friend and my home. My Instagram account is my window to the world. Recently I left my job as a medical nurse, and I have no aspirations for a settled future. Instead I long for new journeys, homes and vistas. Today I found my new home in Bangkok, a fleeting home, which will disappear just as when the new artists’ creations fill these walls. So long, let’s see where we see next!

Vika Sukhova was born and raised in a dying town in a Russian province, where everyone was made to look and behave the same way. She was to get married by 25, have a mortgage by 30, and work at the same job until the retirement while watching soap operas in her spare time. This plight has taught Vika to seek out the beauty in the monotony of everyday life.
However, Vika has always been a wandering soul, and the thought of staying in this setting preserved in the aspic of the same faces with the decaying town as a backdrop pushed her to explore new horizons. She draws inspiration from journeys and the everyday beauty of people’s faces, shapes and moments. Her photographs are both sad and ironic, and are filled with a longing for diversity. Her works were also ranked highly by various photographers at Rodchenko School of Photography review.
