หญิงสาวกับต่างหูไข่มุก - เมื่อกล่าวถึงภาพวาดของ Johnannes Vermeer แล้วจะรู้สึกเหมือนรหัสลับ ภาพวาดนั้นเปิดเผยทุกๆองค์ประกอบสำคัญอย่างไม่มีข้อสงสัย แต่ในขณะเดียวกันกลับเหมือนทำให้ความคิดเราหลงทาง สงสัยเกี่ยวกับหญิงสาวในภาพ ลองจินตนาการดูว่าถ้าหากเธอไม่มีเครื่องประดับ ลองจินตนาการถึงหญิงสาวที่ไม่มีต่างหูไข่มุก ภาพวาดนี้พูดเป็นนัยกับเราอย่างถากถางว่า “ลักษณะเฉพาะ” ที่ศิลปินใส่ลงไปในงานของเขาต้องการความคิดเห็นที่ลึกซึ่งกว่านี้
ไข่มุกกับผ้าโพกศรีษะได้บอกอะไรเกี่ยวกับตัวหญิงสาวรึเปล่า? หรือในทางกลับกันเธอเป็นเห็นแค่คนรับใช้ธรรมดาๆที่ Vermeer แต่งตัวให้เพื่อสร้างภาพแห่งความหรูหรา? แต่อย่างเดียวที่ฉันแน่ใจคือไข่มุกถูกสกัดที่ความลึก และดวงตาของหญิงสาวนั้นสะท้อนความลึกนี้ อีเวนท์พิเศษ: งานเปิดตัวนิทรรศการ ‘Pearl Earring’


Girl with a pearl earring. The title of Johannes Vermeer’s painting feels like a secret code. It unequivocally lifts the veils on the most significant element of the image, but at the same time leaves us lost in thoughts, wondering about the girl. 
Let’s imagine her without accessories, let’s imagine Girl without a pearl earring. This ironically gives us a direct hint on the fact that the ‘accents’ placed by the artist in his work call for more profound discussion. Do the pearl and the turban emphasize the status of the girl? Or on the contrary, was she a simple servant whom Vermeer dressed up to create the illusion of luxury?
I can only be sure about one thing: pearls are extracted at depth and the girl’s eyes reflect this depth.
