The.Monk is born with the envy to play the music of the jazz pioneer Thelonious Monk.
With an electric instrumentation, the trio give a new life to Monk’s composition through a constant research of musical ambiance including very different musical influences. Nonetheless, although the different styles (punk, dub, blues, freejazz) that came out of this work, a deep respect for Thelonious Monk’s music keep the trio in a practice of jazz improvisation’s language.
The iconoclastic style of Alexis meeting Dominic’s organic way to play rythm mix wonderfully with the saturated & weird guitar of Julien Neumann.
If The.Monk take the auditor through a journey around Thelonious Monk’s compositions, it also push him between
wales and doomed dwarfs, arabic landscapes suddenly shifting into a trafic nightmare, and so on, following what is happening in the improvisation aspect of the project.
