เราต้องเผชิญหน้ากับอะไรในปี 2050

ในปีค.ศ.2050 หากอุณหภูมิของน้ำทะเลสูงขึ้น 2 องศาเซลเซียสจะส่งผลต่อการละลายของน้ำแข็งขั้วโลก ขั้วโลกเหนือที่หายไป ทำให้ระดับน้ำทะเลยกตัวสูงขึ้นเข้าท่วมพื้นที่พักอาศัย อุตสาหกรรมและการเกษตรจากชายฝั่งทะเลจนถึงอยุธยาที่ระดับกว่า 2 เมตร จะทำให้ประชากรที่เพิ่มขึ้นกว่า 40 ล้านคนในเมืองหลวงต้องเลือกระหว่างการอพยพย้ายถิ่นฐานแย่งชิงทรัพยากรและเสี่ยงต่อการเกิดความรุนแรงหรือเลือกที่จะปรับตัวให้อยู่ได้กับสภาพแวดล้อมที่เปลี่ยนไปอย่างถาวร

ฝันร้ายจากน้ำท่วมใหญ่ในปีค.ศ.2011 อาจเทียบไม่ได้เลยกับวิกฤตที่ต้องเผชิญในอีก30ปีข้างหน้า ทั้งจำนวนประชากร แหล่งอาหารที่ขาดแคลน แหล่งน้ำจืดที่ไม่สามารถกักเก็บได้ พลังงานที่ไม่เพียงพอ ภาครัฐจะสามารถแบกรับภาระนี้ได้ไหมและเราพร้อมรับมือกับปัญหานี้หรือยัง

Bangkok Sealandia เป็นโครงการออกแบบเชิงทดลองผ่านนักออกแบบรุ่นใหม่ที่อายุน้อยกว่า 30 ปีผู้ที่จะกลายเป็นผู้ประสบภัยในอนาคต พัฒนาผลงานเพื่อต่อยอดไปสู่แนวทางการเอาตัวรอดในปีค.ศ.2050 จากการวิเคราะห์ปัญหาหลากหลายมิติ ผลงานการออกแบบและนิทรรศการจะถูกนำออกแสดงในระหว่างเทศกาล Bangkok Design Week 2020 ณ บ้านเหลียวแล เพื่อสะท้อนให้เห็นว่าวิกฤตภาวะโลกร้อนไม่ใช่สิ่งไกลตัวอีกต่อไปและการพร้อมรับมือต้องถูกวางรากฐานตั้งแต่ในวันนี้

ในภาษาจีน คำว่าวิกฤตประกอบด้วยตัวอักษรที่แปลว่า อันตราย และ โอกาส และในอันตรายที่เกิดจากวิกฤตภาวะโลกร้อนนี้ยังเป็นโอกาสให้มนุษย์ได้ปรับตัวอีกครั้งเพื่อพิสูจน์ว่ามนุษย์นั้นสามารถอยู่ร่วมกับโลกได้อย่างยั่งยืน

What we will encounter in the year 2050?

In 2050, if the sea water’s temperature rises up to 2 degrees Celsius, it will affect the melting of polar ice in North Pole. This will cause the sea level to rise up and flood all the residential area Industry and agriculture field from the coast to Ayutthaya around 2 meters height.  This will force the population in Bangkok that might increase to 40 million people to make decision rather to migrate and risking to violence on competing for the limited resources or choosing to stay and adapt to the new environment which change permanently.

The nightmare from a massive flood in 2011 might not be able to compare to the crisis that we will face in the next 30 years. This will include the increasing of population, massive Immigration, Food and Freshwater supply shortage, insufficient power resource etc. Will the government be able to handle this burden? Could we resilient to this world issues?

Bangkok Sealandia is an experimental design project performed by a new generation who will become victims in the future. The young designers less than 30 years old developed their projects that might help them to survive in the year 2050. The designs based on the analysis and foreseen various future issues.  The final prototype will be exhibited during the Bangkok Design Week 2020 festival at “Baan RealRare” house; to remind the audience that climate change is no longer some far-off problem and will we resilient either by force or by choice?

As the proverb once said, the word Crisis when written in Chinese, the word is composed of two characters. One represents Danger and the other represents Opportunity. By the Danger from the global warming Crisis that we will confront, humankind also have an Opportunity to learn and adapt our civilization to live along with the world in harmony and sustainably.
