คำว่า ‘สมมุติ’ อาจหมายถึง เรื่องไม่จริง การอุปโลกน์ การคาดคะเน และ การยกตัวอย่าง เป็นต้น ในอีกแง่หนึ่ง คำว่า ‘สมมุติ’ ก็มีความหมายที่ตรงข้ามกับคำว่า ‘ความจริง’

(Assumption) หรือ (สมมุติ) คือ นิทรรศการศิลปะแสดงเดี่ยวของ ศุภพงศ์ เหล่าธีรศิริ ที่นำเสนอผลงานศิลปะที่ใช้สิ่งที่ผู้ชมสามารถพบเห็นได้ในชีวิตประจำวันมาเป็นต้นแบบในการสร้างสรรค์ผลงานศิลปะ เช่น กระดาษห่อของขวัญ ป้าย และ ข้อความต่างๆ เป็นต้น โดยต้นแบบเหล่านี้ถูกแปรเปลี่ยนสถานะเดิมให้ไปสู่สถานะใหม่ หรือ สถานะอื่นๆ โดยการใช้กระบวนการทางศิลปะ เช่น จิตรกรรม และ ศิลปะจัดวาง รวมทั้งการใช้อำนาจการนิยามผ่านระบบ หรือ โครงสร้างทางภาษา ในการกำหนด หรือ เปลี่ยนสถานะ เช่น การเขียนคําอธิบาย และ การใช้สัญลักษณ์กํากับข้อความ อย่างไรก็ตาม ผลงานศิลปะในนิทรรศการนี้มีลักษณะที่นำไปสู่ความยอกย้อน ชวนสับสน และ วกวนไปมา จนดูเหมือนว่าเราอาจไม่สามารถหาข้อสรุป ชี้ชัดต่อความหมาย หรือ สถานะของสิ่งเหล่านี้ได้ ดังนั้นนิทรรศการนี้จึงอยากจะเชิญชวนให้ผู้ชมทุกท่าน ร่วมสำรวจ วิเคราะห์ พิจารณา และ ตั้งคำถามต่อการแปรเปลี่ยน ช่องว่างของความแตกต่าง และ ความเป็นจริงของทุกสรรพสิ่งที่เราพบเห็น หรือ รับรู้ โดยหวังว่านิทรรศการนี้จะสามารถเป็นจุดเริ่มต้นของการออกสำรวจ และ การคิดเชิงวิเคราะห์ได้

‘Assumption’ or ‘sommadhi’ which is a word in Thai context could mean conjectures, fables, and illusions. To put it simply, it is the untrue ideas, being far opposite from the truth.

(Assumption) is a solo art exhibition by Supapong Laodheerasiri who is exhibiting art through daily essentials, for example, gift wrapping papers, signs and messages. The essence of these things has been resurrected into a new form or a new state of being by a wide variety of artistic methods such as painting and installation art. The artist also expresses them through a semiotic system, language structures, different defining forms which, for instance, describe things in written forms and convey meanings through the use of symbolism. His works of art are portrayed in deceitfully confusing expressions that are beyond absolute defining and labelling. Thus, the art exhibition allows audiences to explore, to reconsider, and to question different aspects of the truth that people have long perceived. The artist aims to ignite the burning desire of the audiences to explore and rethink on questions concerning the reality of what we see and acknowledge.
