Event Information

"𝐓𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐆𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐧” presents 3 community engagement projects by 3 groups of CommDe Students inspired by the artworks of the two artists; Phaptawan Suwannakudt and Samak Kosem from the exhibition Leave i̶t̶ and Break n̶o̶ Hearts.
The exhibition will display the diversity of works from the students of Chulalongkorn University in the International programme, studying in Communication Design (CommDe). These projects were developed through the workshop with the Artists to understand the process of creating artworks, then, reinterpret their ‘objects’ with a new aspect to respond to Phaptawan and Samak’s works of art. The pieces on display illustrated three distinctive narratives that have been interpreted differently via various media, forms, and methods entailing their exchanges with the artists through conversations and collaborations. Through objects that the Artists have given to the students, they, in return, have given back their reflections in the form of an undaunted journey.

Project 1:
Insider thoughts
أفكار من الداخل
The concept of “insider thoughts” aims to provide insight the Muslim Community from the point of views of Muslims who are in the same generation with the students. The artist of inspiration is Samak Kosem. His work explores the issues regarding Muslim women and queer Muslims. From the students’ understanding, his work has a strong standpoint of the Islam religion and they want to give the audience a wider insight. They have separated their work out into 2 parts which are information board and the opinion board. The layout is inspired from islamic pattern as it is the key visual to display the works.

Project 2:
Blur Refraction
Inspired by artist's works in Leave i̶t̶ and Break n̶o̶ Hearts exhibition and the interview, the students intrigued with the conception of blur presented in both artists' creation and thoughts. Blur contributes with visual and conceptual aspects of the work, which, as a starting point, each of them interpret their own response of artist's idea of blur differently. At each different formats come with distinct narrative to follow by. As original context could not be seen, each blur would resonates differently to variety of people

Project 3:
Morng Moom Mae
(From Mother's perspective)
“Morng Moom Mae (From Mother’s perspective)” started from conversations with 4 mothers from 4 different families, each having different careers, social circles, and method for raising their daughters. From what students have gathered, they would like to present an interesting relationship between mothers and daughters through a perspective that you might not be familiar with. Through photography, text, and sound, they narrate 4 stories, so that you can see the reason behind a mother’s actions may have more meaning than your initially thought.
