Two Roads Meet - WALKABOUT (1971, Nicolas Roeg).
When paths cross, choices in direction have to be made. Colonialism, history, innocence, responsibility are navigated along a path that is at once as taught as a wire, old, familiar, strange, lost.
Nicolas Roeg’s Walkabout is the story of two pale, knobbly-kneed children in the outback. Lost after the death of their father, their meeting with David Gulpillil’s character is the meeting of not only of three children but the confrontation and acknowledgement of two civilisations, in conflict for two-hundred years.
