Had it not been for the Coronavirus pandemic, the next few weeks would have seen people from across County Durham coming together in their thousands to share their love of community singing with one another as part of Durham Big Sing. Instead, we are all in lockdown and singing together has instead become an online activity. For now, the joy of singing together with our friends and family is something we must wait patiently for.
However, here at The Singing Elf, we didn't want to let the festival dates pass us by without doing something to celebrate community singing and share it with the world.
Between 8th - 17th May, we will be sharing performances from choirs and singing groups from across the North East on Facebook for everyone to enjoy, and we'd love to include something from your choir. All you need to do is email us a YouTube or Facebook link to a video of your choir performing or singing together, and we will share it. This could be a recording of a previous performance or concert, something filmed in rehearsal or a video your singers have put together during lockdown - basically, anything you think represents you and your singers. Our aim is to share at least one performance per day over the 10 days of the festival, and everyone is welcome to take part.
How to take part
To take part, simply send us an email containing a link to either a YouTube or Facebook video of your choir singing together. We'd like the videos to be of only one song or piece (rather than a full concert), but all styles and types of music are welcomed. There is no cost to taking part, we just want to share the love you have for singing with the widest possible audience we can. We will make sure that your group is clearly signposted with the link we share.
