We welcome all up-and-coming entrepreneurs, business leaders, and University members to join us as we analyze the aftermath of COVID-19. Discover the effects of the global pandemic on international and regional trade patterns, the next evolutionary step of technological innovation in Asia and ASEAN, and the procedures in place for rebuilding the world of business.
With increasing tensions between the two world superpowers – US and China; rising disputes in the South China Sea and along the Sino-Indian border; sociopolitical unrest in the United States and a global economic crisis that distorts traditional manufacturing, service industries, consumer spending, and livelihoods alike, the future looks uncertain and unapproachable.
This is why we turn to our three extraordinary experts in this panel discussion, to enlighten us on the changes that will emerge from 2020 onward.
History has documented multiple setbacks in the past 40 years, yet the spirit of human determination has yet to falter – contrarily to the “end of the history” envisioned after the fall of Berlin’s wall. The level of extreme poverty fell from 42.2% of the world’s population in 1981 to 8.6% in 2018. In 1981, 1.9 billion people lived on less than $1.90 per day; in 2018, the number decreased to an approximate 660 million. China’s premier Li Ke-Qiang has recently dubbed eliminating poverty as one of their main obligations and will do so to create a moderately prosperous society. Most of these achievements were possible thanks to international trade, globalisation, and mutual exchange of innovative ideas.
In the aftermath of
COVID-19, to resonate with Sergio Marchionne’s visionary words, will a “creative reconstruction after the perfect storm” take place?
