Biography
Tommy Emmanuel (ทอมมี่ เอ็มแมนวลเอล) มือกีตาร์ซึ่งเคยถูกเสนอชื่อเข้าชิงรางวัล Grammy มาแล้วสองครั้ง เป็นหนึ่งในนักดนตรีชาวออสเตรเลียที่ได้รับการยอมรับมากที่สุด โดย Tommy ซึ่งเล่นดนตรีอาชีพมากว่าห้าทศวรรษนั้นมีแฟนเพลง ที่ติดตามผลงานอย่างเหนียวแน่นทั่วโลกหลายแสนคน

พรสวรรค์และชีวิตของ Tommy นั้นถือเป็นเรื่องเล่าที่คุ้นเคยกันดีในประเทศออสเตรเลีย โดย Tommy ซึ่งเกิดในครอบครัวดนตรีนั้นได้รับกีตาร์ตัวแรกตอนอายุ 4 ขวบ และได้กับการฝึกสอนจากแม่ของเขา เขาเรียนรู้การเล่นกีตาร์อย่างรวดเร็วโดยใช้หูฟัง และเขาไม่เคยอ่านโน้ตดนตรีเลย Tommy ทำงานเป็นนักดนตรีอาชีพตอนอายุ 6 ขวบกับวงดนตรีของครอบครัว (ซึ่งมีหลากหลายชื่อไม่ว่าจะเป็น The Emmanuel Quartet, The Midget Surfaries และ The Trailblazers) ซึ่งตอนที่เขาอายุ 10 ปี เขาก็ได้เดินสายเล่นทั่วประเทศออสเตรเลียแล้ว

ในช่วงยุค 70 Tommy เป็นนักดนตรีที่เป็นต้องการตัวอย่างสูง ทั้งในฐานะนักดนตรีห้องอัดและสมาชิกวง เขาได้เล่นในงานของ Air Supply, Men at Work และศิลปิน วงดนตรีชื่อดังอีกมากมาย รวมไปถึงเพลงและจิงเกิ้ลโฆษณานับพันชิ้น งานส่วนหนึ่งที่สร้างชื่อให้กับเขามากที่สุดก็คือ เพลงซิงเกิ้ลยอดนิยมของ Air Supply อย่าง “Lost in Love” “All Out of Love” “Every Woman in the World” และ “Now and Forever” ซึ่งหลังจากนั้นไม่นาน Tommy ก็กลายเป็นที่รู้จักในฐานะหนึ่งในมือกีตาร์รุ่นใหม่ ที่มีฝีมือเยี่ยมที่สุดในประเทศออสเตรเลีย เขาได้ร่วมวง Dragon ในปี 1985 ซึ่งทางวงถือเป็นหนึ่งในวงร็อคสัญชาติออสเตรเลีย ที่โด่งดังมากที่สุดในทศวรรษนั้น และ Tommy ได้ร่วมอัดเสียงในงานชุด Dreams of Ordinary Men อัลบั้มที่ทำยอดขายระดับแพลททินั้มของทางวง แต่สิ่งที่ทำให้ Tommy เป็นที่รู้จักกันมากที่สุด ก็คือ อาชีพศิลปินเดี่ยวที่ประสบความสำเร็จของเขา

ในที่สุด Tommy ก็ได้พบและเล่นกับ Chet Atkins (เช็ท แอ็ทกิ้นส์) ฮีโร่ของเขาที่เมือง Nashville รัฐ Tennessee ในช่วงยุค 80 และนับตั้งแต่วินาทีสุดมหัศจรรย์นั้น Atkins ก็ให้การช่วยเหลือ Tommy มาโดยตลอด เราจะเห็นอิทธิพลของ Chet ในทุกแง่มุมดนตรีของ Tommy ไม่ว่าจะเป็นปรัชญาส่วนตัว ความแม่นยำด้านเทคนิคการเล่น การอิมโพรไวส์แบบเชี่ยวชาญ และแนวดนตรีหลากหลายแนวในระดับที่ไม่ธรรมดา (ดนตรีที่ Tommy เล่นไม่ได้มีแค่ country และ bluegrass เท่านั้น แต่ยังรวมไปถึง pop, jazz, blues, gospel หรือแม้แต่ classic, flamenco และดนตรีแนว Aborigine) Tommy พูดถึง Chet ซึ่งเป็นแรงบันดาลใจของตัวเขาด้วยความรักและชื่นชมแบบลูกชาย และความฝันที่จะได้อัดเสียงกับ Chet Atkins ของเขาก็เป็นจริงในปี 1996 โดยทั้งสองได้ร่วมกันอัดเสียงงานชุด The Day The Finger Pickers Took Over The World ซึ่งทำให้ Tommy ได้รับการเสนอชื่อเข้าชิงรางวัล Grammy เป็นครั้งแรก

Chet ให้เกียรติ Tommy ซึ่งสร้างสรรค์ผลงานดนตรีกับกีตาร์ ด้วยการเรียกเขาว่าเป็น “มือกีตาร์ตัวจริง” (“Certified Guitar Player”) โดยหลังจากที่ Tommy ได้เล่นกับ Phil (พี่น้องของเขา) อย่างน่าทึ่งที่งานพิธีปิดกีฬาโอลิมปิคในกรุงซิดนีย์แล้ว โลกก็ต้องการที่จะรู้ว่าสิงห์กีตาร์มือฉมังชาวออสเตรเลียคนนี้คือใคร Tommy ออกงานเดี่ยวกีตาร์โปร่งชุดแรกในชื่อ ONLY และชื่อเสียง ความนิยมในตัวเขาก็เพิ่มขึ้นอย่างก้าวกระโดด จากตารางเดินสายแบบต่อเนื่องและความสนใจของสื่อที่เพิ่มขึ้น

อัลบั้มชุด The Mystery ทำให้ Tommy ได้รับการเสนอชื่อเข้าชิงรางวัล Grammy อีกครั้ง และนิตยสาร Guitar Player Magazine กับ Acoustic Guitar Magazine ก็ได้ประกาศให้เขาเป็นมือกีตาร์อคูสติคยอดเยี่ยม (Best Acoustic Guitarist) และ Gold Medalist ใน Reader’c Choice กับ Players’ Choice Awards ในปี 2008 ส่วน Readers Choice award ของนิตยสาร Guitar Player ก็ได้ประกาศให้เขาเป็น Best Acoustic Guitarist เป็นครั้งที่สองในปี 2010!

ผลงานทั้งหมดของ Tommy นั้น มีมากกว่า 20 ชุด ไม่ว่าจะเป็นงานเดี่ยว งานเล่นคู่ งานรูปแบบวง งานเพลงคัฟเวอร์ งานเพลงที่แต่งขึ้นใหม่ โดยเขาเล่นทั้งกีตาร์ไฟฟ้าและกีตาร์อคูสติค เขามีดีวีดีแสดงสด 6 ชุด ดีวีดีและซีดีสอนอีก 6 ชุด และตัว Tommy เองก็จะสอน master class ในระหว่างช่วงที่เดินสายอยู่เป็นประจำ

ผลงานเพลงแต่งใหม่ชุดล่าสุดของ Tommy ก็คือ Little By Little อัลบั้มแผ่นคู่ แต่อัลบั้มชุดที่ออกมาล่าสุดของเจ้าตัวก็คือ “The Colonel and the Governor” อัลบั้มคู่สำเนียง jazz ที่อัดพร้อมกับ Martin Taylor มือกีตาร์ซึ่งมีพรสวรรค์ในระดับเดียวกัน

การแสดงสดให้กับแฟนเพลงคือสิ่งที่สำคัญสูงสุดของ Tommy เขาได้แสดงให้เห็นถึงความรู้สึกนี้ด้วยการเล่นคอนเสิร์ทมากกว่า 300 ครั้งต่อปีในช่วง 7 ปีที่ผ่านมา! มือกีตาร์ทุกๆคนเข้ามาดูโชว์ของ Tommy เพื่อดูเขาแสดงเวทย์มนตร์ ซึ่งไม่ได้มีเสน่ห์แต่แค่กับนักดนตรีเท่านั้น การแสดงของเขานั้นมีทั้งอารมณ์ขัน การนำเสนอ จิตวิญญาณ และความสุขที่ส่งมอบให้แก่ผู้ชม

Biography
"Tommy Emmanuel” is an Australian guitarist, songwriter and occasional singer, best known for his complex fingerstyle technique, energetic performances and the use of percussive effects on the guitar.

Four-time winner of Australia's Best Guitarist award, has helped bring the art of rock guitar down under to a higher awareness over his two-decade-long career by bringing a sense of jazz improvisation into a mix that also includes blues, country, rock, classical, and Spanish music.

After years as a popular sideman and ace songwriter, the two-time ARIA (Aussie Grammys equivalent) award winner launched his solo career in 1988 with Up from Down Under.

He has shown a mastery and affinity for both electric and acoustic axes and has been singled out by the likes of notable musicians such as Chet Atkins -- with whom he recorded The Day Finger Pickers Took Over the World in 1997 -- and Todd Rundgren, who considers him an innovator on the instrument. Only appeared in 2001, followed by 2002's Endless Road, 2005's Live One, and 2006's Happy Hour and Mystery.

Honours[edit]
In June 2010, Emmanuel was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM).[2]

In 2012, due to his virtuoso status and dissemination of the "fingerstyle" method of guitar picking, the Commonwealth of Kentucky and Governor Steve Beshear awarded Emmanuel the state's highest honor: the title of Kentucky Colonel.[8] The fingerstyle method originated in Northwestern Kentucky and was pioneered by Merle Travis.

Chet Atkins commented that Emmanuel was a "fearless" fingerpicking guitar player, and awarded Tommy and four others (John Knowles, Marcel Dadi, Jerry Reed, and Steve Wariner) the "Certified Guitar Player" title. [9][10]
