Bastard Libraries and Chamber Secrets;
Hybrid Architecture and Progressive Conservation
by Chatpong Chuenrudeemol
Join us for an afternoon exploring Mario Tamagno’s Neilson Hays Library as an early example of an architectural hybrid of Western design and tropical innovations, as seen through the eyes of the award-winning architect known for his research on Thai street vernacular—affectionately named Bangkok Bastards. Khun Chatpong will also ask: what is conservation? with his reimagining of a ‘bastardized’ design for the Neilson Hays Library of the future. A must-join event for architecture and conservation enthusiasts.

5pm – 6:30pm EXHIBITION OPENING:
Bangkok Chattana; Alchemy of Architecture and Narrative
with Christina Soontornvat and Chatpong Chuenrudeemol
Christina Soontornvat kicks off the session with a reading from her Newbury Honor book, A Wish in the Dark and talks about her creative process. Chatpong Chuenrudeemol, Silpathorn Award recipient, will then lead a guided tour of his human-sized modelled installations inspired by Soontornvat’s character, the city of Chattana.
Join us to get into the minds of the two artists and see how magic emerges from mixing literary narrative with architecture; culture with space; and history with form.
Tickets: Free; seat reservation required.
